Our commitment to sustainable floristry that respects and preserves our planet
At Quefzunshun, we believe that true floral artistry must honor the natural world that inspires it. Our sustainability philosophy goes beyond trend or marketing—it's the foundation of everything we do.
Each bloom in our arrangements represents our commitment to ethical sourcing, waste reduction, and environmental stewardship. We recognize that as florists, we are caretakers of nature's most beautiful gifts, and with that privilege comes responsibility.
From seed to centerpiece, we carefully consider the environmental impact of every decision. Our approach balances the timeless joy of fresh flowers with modern sustainability practices, creating a model of conscientious floristry for future generations.
"We don't simply arrange flowers—we honor their journey and ensure the practices that bring them to your home respect the earth they grew from."
We prioritize partnerships with Manitoba's flower farms and greenhouses, reducing transportation emissions while supporting our local economy. During peak growing season (May through October), over 80% of our fresh flowers come from within a 100km radius of Winnipeg.
When local options aren't available, we carefully select suppliers who share our commitment to sustainable growing practices, fair labor standards, and responsible resource management.
Traditional floral foam is a petroleum-based product that never fully biodegrades and contains formaldehyde and other harmful chemicals. Since 2020, we've been completely foam-free in all our arrangements.
Instead, we employ traditional techniques using chicken wire, reusable pin frogs, and carefully structured stems to create stable, beautiful arrangements. This approach not only eliminates harmful waste but often results in longer-lasting flowers and more natural, dynamic designs.
Our commitment to sustainability extends to every aspect of packaging and presentation. We've replaced traditional cellophane with biodegradable plant-based wraps, swapped plastic ribbon for cotton and hemp alternatives, and eliminated single-use plastics from our retail operations.
Our signature gift boxes are made from 100% post-consumer recycled cardboard with soy-based inks, and we offer a container return program that incentivizes customers to bring back vases for reuse.
Floral design naturally generates organic waste, but we've implemented comprehensive systems to ensure nothing goes to landfill. All green waste is composted through our partnership with local urban farms, creating a closed-loop system where today's flower trimmings help grow tomorrow's blooms.
We've also developed creative solutions for floral waste, including our popular dried flower program, natural dye workshops, and botanical papermaking sessions that transform otherwise discarded blooms into new treasures.
Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond our shop walls through various community programs and initiatives.
Our commitment to environmental responsibility is backed by recognized certifications and partnerships.
These certifications reflect our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable business practices. We continuously review and improve our methods to reduce our ecological footprint.
Sustainable floristry is a collective effort. Here are ways you can participate in our mission for a greener, more beautiful world.
